SKETCHFEST: Portrait Masterclass with Curtis Holder

Join us for the grand finale of SKETCHFEST - a masterclass with acclaimed Artist Curtis Holder!

Winner of Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year 2020, Curtis draws in the most mesmerizing, magical of ways. He is a compelling and compulsive Artist, and speaks so eloquently about drawing and art.

He says:

“I prefer to start every drawing with a conversation, an opportunity to glimpse into the mind of the subject, make a connection and shape an idea. My goal is always to translate their emotions and the mood of our encounter onto paper, along with my own feelings and observations. The marks I make respond to the moment. Sometimes a simple continuous line says everything, other times I build tone and depth with complex layers of colour, injecting spontaneous lines to emphasise form or emotional intent. Life is never still, so I use multiple marks to create movement and energy or to correct what the eye has misjudged. I rarely erase lines; they are all part of the story. “

In this afternoon masterclass, Curtis will give us a unique insight into his creative ethos and approach. You’ll watch him create a portrait, before doing some fun fluid drawings of your own, of each other!

Whilst this is a ‘masterclass’ it is open to ALL LEVELS and complete beginners. Like us, Curtis meets a lot of people who think they “can’t draw” - and like us he is passionate about empowering people to feel they can!

His energy and enthusiasm is electrifying - come get inspired!

Tickets £10 (or get a day pass for £14 and join our AM workshop too!)

SKETCHFEST: Sketchy Bitches Go Big!

SKETCHFEST: Sketchy Bitches Go Big!

Sketchy Bitches, we’re going BIG!

Drawing miniature (A7) portraits is a Sketchy Bitches tradition - but this special event calls for special measures! SKETCHFEST is our biggest event to date, and so as it draws to a close it seems apt that we GO BIG and attempt to draw portraits on A3 paper!

We’ll start small (literally) and work our way up, using mainly coloured pencils and crayons. We’ll work on some self-portraits and then in small groups, so everyone has a chance to pose - and also time to finish at least 3 x MAHOOSIVE portraits!

On your marks, get set… LET’S GO FOR IT!!

Suitable for all levels - all materials provided
Tickets £8 (or get a day pass for £14 if you’d like to stay for our masterclass with Curtis Holder in the afternoon)

After a quick demo and discussion from Sophie, expect to play, cut and stick your way through an afternoon of paper-based portraiture! You’ll work on a self-portrait and then in small groups.

All materials provided but please bring any scraps of paper card, or other found materials (e.g. buttons, fabrics) you think might come in handy!
