The mood has turned a bit monochrome, so we’re diving into INKTOBER with a special edition of Sketchy Bs to lift our spirits!
We’ll kick off by looking at some basic techniques and ink illustrations for inspo, before taking it in turns to pose and creating moody monochrome portraits of each other. Expect to experiment with Picasso, Quentin Blake and Renee Gruau style inking, and no doubt make a bit of a mess while you’re at it! We’ll probably avoid the Ralph Steadman technique, but if you’ve got the room to make a mess you might wanna give this a go at some point… :)
Dress code = SMOKIN’ (black eyeliner)!! And something old that you don’t mind getting ink all over!
Recommended materials:
A thin/medium paintbrush
A pot of black or blue ink - we recommend Windsor & Newton Drawing Ink or Daler Rowney Acrylic Ink. Check out this buying guide from Cass Art.
An A5 or A4 pad of Heavyweight cartridge paper , or check out this Kraft-On Paper we used at least year’s IRL Inktober workshop
If you fancy adding some calligraphic Quentin Blake vibes to your work, you may want to pick up a dip nib and nib holder too
NB: If you’re keen to pose then get in there! We’ll get through as many muses as we can and guarantee that the first 10 people to book will be drawn/inked.
Check out the pics from last year’s Inktoberfest!
