If there’s one thing that seems to thrill and terrify us in equal measure it’s drawing the face! On this fun 4 week course, we’ll help you to silence your inner critic, break through creative block, and empower the portrait artist within!
We’ll experiment with different approaches to portraiture and encourage you to venture beyond your comfort zone – to play with different styles, colours, materials, scales and approaches to drawing the face. You’ll be drawing self-portraits and portraits of your fellow coursemates, and we’ll be drawing inspiration from reference imagery along the way.
Portraiture has been around a lot longer than photography, and back in the day capturing the likeness of a sitter was vital. To create a lifelike record of royalty and nobility was the main objective of all portrait commissions. But NOW? Portraits can take any form, any medium and any style. But still when we come to draw one the first thing our brain tell us to do is draw the person like you see them. This course aims to break through some of those instincts and set you free from these blockers and help you to draw without any fixed goal or idea in mind. With the focus on process over product - essence over likeness, you’ll soon find drawing portraits p*ss-easy!
Overview of weeks 1-4:
