“Join me to get out of the contract to do the same old drawing, to witness what happens when you hold back on marks until you have found the absorbing moments in the face, then embrace uncertainty!”
This month’s guest session will be led by Artist Helen Girling, whose unique style has been fascinating us since the first time she joined Sketchy Bitches in 2020!
This session will give us an insight into how she does it, into her ‘Black Moon Collection’, and how she creates such fresh and intuitive portraits. As well as giving you chance to play with a new approach, Helen aims to help you develop a commitment to looking before drawing to really capture what you want to say in your work.
Helen says:
“In many ways it doesn’t really matter what your drawings are doing it's what you are seeing that makes the difference. Over my art practice I have gathered momentum to look beyond controlled outcomes and tune into the drawing that wants to be made. As I have often learnt, there will always be resistance to anything new but what you gonna do, not do it?”
