March 2019 - our first and last event at Rich Mix, before COVID flipped our lives around.

Our creative collaborations with Sue Kreitzman, Florent Bidois and their Spitalfields Colour Walk community mark some of the most defining and delightful moments of the past 5 years! These colourful connections have inspired exhibitions, workshops and Instagram challenges - marked historic social moments and created memories to last a lifetime. This special evening is a chance to celebrate some of the people who punctuated our pandemic years with colour, creativity and fun - and the spirit of Sketch Appeal that survived and thrived throughout!

Another huge and important influence on our early days was Fashion Artist Sue Dray, whose enthusiasm for our magazine launch and mission meant so much. As a superfan of her work, I was thrilled when Sue agreed to join our first ever panel discussion (on International Women’s Day 2019) - even more so that she was up for leading a fashion sketching masterclass whilst there! If you were part of that day you’ll know why this is one of my favourite memories of the past 5 years. It was an event like no other - the force of 40 women sketching under the same roof!

Of course I couldn’t have led Sketch Appeal to this point without the incredible support, inspiration and humour of the Sketchy Bitches and members of the Sketch Appeal community! What started as a magazine about drawing has become so much more. It’s become a social movement and mission that continues to evolve in unexpected ways, whilst remaining true to its core purpose - to connect, to uplift and to empower people through creativity. Is it worth celebrating 5 years of this? I think so! And I hope you’ll agree and come join us :)
