Working with a restricted number of colours is a great way to create unique stylised portraits and build your confidence in using colour. It also takes away the stress of having to choose and change colours all the time, which is very liberating for the indecisive among us!!
A lot of us tend to try to draw things as we see them - we see blue eyes, we pick up a blue pencil, we see brown hair - we pick up a brown pencil etc.. Many of us also start - or finish - with a black line! This session will lure you away from all of that to explore and experiment with dramatic and unusual colour palettes - and see if you can ‘survive’ without a black pen!!
We’ll start with a quick warm-up - drawing quick portraits with 1, then 2 and then 3 colours. You can then decide how you wish to continue the session. As ever, we’ll be drawing 8 minute portraits and you’ll be invited to pose - but not obliged to! No pressure to share your work with the group either.
