Please note: This event has been postponed due to a mix-up with the venue. Apologies for the disappointment - we’ll announce the new date soon!
In 2018, the Mental Health Foundation reported that almost 1 in 3 adults have felt so stressed by body image and appearance that they felt overwhelmed or unable to cope.
So, if that stat’s anything to go by, then we could all benefit from a day of open conversation, creativity and body LOVE!
Join us for a special full-day workshop exploring body image and some of the ways we can use drawing to develop healthy habits, positive thoughts and feel more IN LOVE with our bodies.
The event will be co-hosted by Sketchy Bitches Founder Dulcimer Draws and Jemima Sara: both of whom used drawing to support their recovery from disordered eating and continue to use it as an essential tool for wellbeing.
The more we embrace our creativity, our ‘inner child’, the closer we get to embracing the SELF: so come give yourself a hug and fill your body with creative energy and LOVE!
10.30am – 11am: ARRIVAL & COFFEES
11am – 12pm: DISCUSSION
After sharing their own candid stories Dulcimer and Jemima will lead an informal group discussion and invite everyone who wishes to join in and share their experiences, thoughts or feelings about their body and/or the subject of body image. There is no pressure to join in if you prefer just to listen, but rest-assured you will be in non-judgmental and supportive environment if you wish to do so.
12-1pm: UNLEASH YOUR INNER SHERO!
Jemima launched her brand JEMIMASARA after scribbling her alter ego 'Sally': an unapologetic representation of a female figure who is often portrayed with nothing but a martini in hand and a positive, self-loving attitude. In this workshop, she’ll show you how scribbling characters can be healing, empowering and FUN: guiding you through playful drawing techniques to conjure up your own body-loving alter-ego.
1-2pm: LUNCH
2-3pm: GROUP SKETCH!
It wouldn’t be Sketchy Bitches if we didn’t all take a turn to pose and draw each other! This time though, we’ll pose and draw each other in groups and you’ll be invited to sit/stand however you feel most comfortable, confident and free.
Dulcimer will time and guide the poses and set lots of fun and experimental challenges along the way: exploring line, style, proportion and distortion. The intention is not to create ‘perfect’ illustrations or to flatter each other – this is all about observing lines, shapes and energy to create an authentic expression of each other’s bodies.
3-4.30pm: ZINES & RADVERTISING
We’ll look at women’s magazines then and now, discuss what’s changed and what still needs to change, and then define how that might look by creating our own mini zines! You can theme or fill your zine however you wish and you can either draw, collage or both: we’ll have lots of mags ready for you to rip up and reinvent!
4.30-5pm: CLOSING CHALLENGE & CHAT
Tickets £20 inc. all materials & sketchbook. Advance booking essential!
Come along and meet Jemima’s alter-ego Sally - aka 'The Martini Lady' ! She’s a positive figure with very few boundaries who promotes self-confidence, self-love and wants to educate, inform and inspire individuals through fun and meaningful pep-talks.
